MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING PROJECT

F&BV CDT’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Project aims to support people over the age of 18 who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues, are feeling lonely or socially isolated, are finding life a little difficult, or are just looking for someone to chat to.
Part of the project includes planning and developing a wellbeing programme, which will include various groups, activities, and workshops designed to support and help people with their mental health and wellbeing, as well as address loneliness and isolation.
Our new Mental Health and Wellbeing Development Worker, Rachel Nelson, can work with people on a one-to-one basis. She can also help them access services and activities in the community which can support or improve their mental health and wellbeing. This help and guidance would be based on what would be best suited to the person, their specific circumstances and needs.
We can help and support people to access services and activities such as:
Peer support groups
Community based activity groups
Exercise classes
Advice services
Emotional support
Financial support
Counselling for various needs
Advocacy services
Wellbeing groups and activities
Baby/toddler groups
Substance use support
Befriending and shopping service for older people
If you need support or advice that is not listed here, please still get in touch, we will do everything we can to help!
How can you access this service?
You can self-refer here, by email, or by giving us a call
You can be referred by a third party (if you have given consent for them to do so)
What’s to come?
There are plans to run various activities and groups which are targeted at supporting and improving people’s wellbeing. Some of these activities and groups would be dependent on community interest, and there is potential to run other groups and activities based on suggestions from the community about what you would like to see/do.
The following groups are planned to begin within the coming months:
Men’s social group
This is a group where men will be able to connect, share experiences, and engage in activities together.
It will be a relaxing space to foster friendships and have fun. The activities would be based on what the community would like to do.
Parent/Guardian of Teenagers Support Group
This group will be a safe, supportive, and non judgemental group to discuss the challenges and joys of raising teenagers. Parents/guardians will be able to come together for a cuppa and chat.
The aim is to run the group every second week, but this can be flexible depending on what the group prefer. The day and time of this group is still to be confirmed, so keep an eye out on our social media for this information!
Exercise classes for over 50s (run by Xcite)
Xcite plans to run a series of exercise classes for people aged 50 and over. The first type of exercise class that will be running is seated chair exercises; this will initially run for six weeks starting on Friday 29 August at 11.45am at The Hub. Following this, there will be a chance for attendees to choose the next type of exercise!
Seated exercise is an accessible and low-impact activity. The class will offer a fun and social way to build stamina, strength, flexibility, and joint mobility, all from the comfort of your chair.
